My Story

I'm Michaela, and I believe that care begins with connection.

My journey into caregiving started with a genuine desire to help others feel seen, supported, and understood. With over 7 years of experience in elder care in Queenstown, I've developed a deep understanding of what meaningful support truly means.

When I joined Arvida Lake Wakatipu Care Centre as an Activities Coordinator in 2019, I discovered my passion for creating enriching experiences for seniors. There's something profoundly human about walking alongside someone in the later chapters of life—preserving their independence, sharing stories, and offering comfort in the moments that matter most.

Care, to me, is not transactional. It's a relationship built on trust, quiet strength, and the belief that dignity never expires.

My Care Philosophy

Dignity First

Care should never diminish someone—it should uplift them. I support clients in maintaining autonomy, because the little choices shape our sense of self.

Connection is the Foundation

I take time to learn about each person—their routines, preferences, histories, and hopes. It's in these details that meaningful relationships are built.

Whole-Person Care

I bring a holistic approach to caregiving, attending to emotional, mental, and social health alongside physical wellbeing.

Family is Part of the Circle

When I care for someone, I also support their family. Open communication and aligned values are key to ensuring families feel informed and included.

A Commitment to Growth

I'm passionate about improving the lives of older adults by creating meaningful, enriching experiences. I regularly upskill to offer the highest level of care, including:

Dementia Care

Specialized training in understanding dementia and person-centered approaches

Moving & Handling

Certified trainer for safe techniques and strategies to minimize falls and incidents

Palliative Care

Training in comfort care approaches and emotional support

"What sets Michaela apart is her ability to bring joy and meaning to caregiving. She doesn't just attend to needs—she creates moments that matter, even on difficult days."
